Australians love their cars … and we have plenty we call classics.

Here are a few of our all-time favourite vehicles – and where to find the classic car parts to keep them in pristine condition!

Audi Quattro

For years, names like Ford Escort and Lancia Stratos dominated rally driving. That all changed in the late 70s with the arrival of the Audio Quattro. Its innovative design featured a hollow shaft which ensured dual power distribution. The Quattro all-wheel drive system proved such a success, it’s now used throughout Audi SUV and diesel ranges.

Mitsubishi Lancer

With its sleek lines, the Lancer made an immediate impression when it hit Australian shores in July 2008. It regularly featured in our top 10 vehicle sales until 2017 when Mitsubishi discontinued production. For local Lancer fans, the holy grail is the locally released Lancer Evolution Final Edition. Just 150 units were sold, ensuring it bowed out with a bang.

Nissan Patrol

The Nissan Patrol became a household name in the 60s when adventurer Reg Sprigg crossed the Simpson Desert in a second generation model. It’s been a favourite with travellers and off-road enthusiasts ever since. We’re now up to the sixth series and the VK56VD 5.6 litre V8 engine is the most powerful around.

Nissan Pulsar

The Nissan Pulsar has had an on-and-off again love affair with Australia. Initially produced from 1978 to 2000, Nissan replaced it overseas and the Sylphy was rebadged as the Pulsar in Australia. The first Australian made Pulsars arrived in 1983 – and every Pulsar fan will know the Nissan Pulsar ET, an aerodynamic five-speed manual that’s now a cult classic.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi

In the 90s, Subaru dominated the World Rally Championship (WRC), and it was thanks to the Impreza. It regularly sprinted to victory with an innovative Boxer engine that provided enhanced stability and plenty of grunt. In a nod to its winning team, Subaru released the WRX and then the WRX STi. Manufactured in South Australia, the Subaru 25BB is our modern tribute to the classic limited-edition STi 22B model.

Toyota Landcruiser

Nothing says outback adventure quite like the Landcruiser. Toyota first manufactured it in 1951 and it has long graced our shores. It’s a firm favourite among law enforcement, farmers and plenty of avid 4WD enthusiasts.
